Drama is offered as a learning area for all pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10. Students are given the opportunity to explore many theatrical skills and styles, from mime to melodrama, and also practically explore the theories of contemporary theatre practitioners such as Stanislavski and Brecht.

Classes are practical and pupils will be given plenty of opportunity to perform in front of their peers.  In the drama department we ensure that our pupils are given the opportunity to;
Develop self confidence, develop a knowledge and understanding of some of the forms of drama, show sensitivity and empathy towards others, read, perform and talk about plays that they like, develop leadership qualities, work as part of a team, evaluate their own and others performance skills, create performances and develop a lasting love for drama and theatre.

Starmaker drama Club: All pupils can avail of extra curricular drama in the school. Starmaker drama club is run by the pupils, for the pupils! The club is open to anyone in the school from year 8 to 14. Meetings take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at lunchtime in the Community Room.

The activities are fun and enjoyable and the plays we experiment with are based on current issues and are chosen based on pupils’ likes and dislikes. Pupils and leaders will learn to develop confidence when performing, take on different roles, have the opportunity to direct and produce. Starmaker is a great way to have fun in drama and will help you to develop confidence and learn new skills.

The current group are working towards performances from ‘Hair Spray’ and ‘Annie’. Keep a look out for our trailer which is coming soon!
