History

Welcome to the History Department. We firmly believe that without a real knowledge of the past we cannot understand our present or have a meaningful influence on our

future so here in St.Joseph’s Donaghmore we aim to deliver a programme of study which gives you both a breadth and depth of knowledge and allows you to develop key skills for your future career. You will have the opportunity to study a variety of topics, some of which are shown below. You may even have the opportunity to choose your own area of interest and to share your knowledge with your class!!

WHY STUDY HISTORY?

Whether you intend to continue your studies at university or look for employment, history is a subject which will be of great benefit to you. Universities and employers value History students as they know they will have experience in research methodology and the ability to reason with clarity and cogency. They will have developed high levels of literacy and critical thinking skills and can work alone or in teams, displaying initiative in both. This explains why History opens the door to a wide variety of courses and careers.  For more information on the benefits of studying History take a look at the Careers in History notice boards.
